School Farm Link Project

In 2006 Hadleigh Farmers launched a School Farm Link Initiative and invited local primary schools to visit their farms as a fun way of exploring the countryside and covering many national curriculum subjects in an outdoor environment away from the classroom. Around twelve primary schools now have regular contact with their local farms and this culminates in an annual competition and wonderful display of schools children’s work in the xchools tent at the Hadleigh Show.

In 2011, we held our first catalogue cover competition, asking children to design the front cover for the show catalogue. The children were asked to draw a picture reflecting the agricultural and countryside elements of the show. Over 200 entries were received and childrens designs will now feature on each years' show catalogue.

Over the last few years the schools tent has developed and now not only show cases childrens art work, but also provides information and educational material on farming and the countryside for teachers and children of all ages. We encourage the children to take an active part in the schools tent where they can milk a cow, identify and feel seeds and grind wheat to make flour.

We are always looking for new farms to join our School Farm Link. If you already host farm visits and would like you local school to be involved in the tent, or if you would like to find out more information about hosting visits, then please do get in contact. For schools who don’t have a link with their local farm, we may also be able to introduce you to a local farmer.
